Tamara's introduction
Hi! My name is Tamara and I'm also going to be posting illustrations and such on this blog: Washington Avenue.
I am an illustrator/biologist from the Netherlands, where we don't really have "avenues" but "straten", "boulevards" and "lanen". I started speaking English when I was 5 by watching Inspector Gadget (Go go gadget!) and according to my Australian friends I still have a vague American/Canadian accent. Drawing started around the same time and was for a time limited to bunnies and dolphins. After a while I started drawing portraits and elves and these days it's comics about little children and strange creatures.
But let's not overwhelm you with too much useless information about me. Let's talk about this little lady left to this text:
She's a pensketch of a Knar (a race born out of my own imagination) that I coloured in photoshop. I tried to apply some textures in her clothing and skin and I think it didn't turn out too bad, but any tips to get a better result are welcome!

Hippy VW van
This van is a part of a project I am working on for a person I work with. He wanted to have a VW van "peaced" out hippy style. I turned in this design for the basic van and he liked it. I told him I would do the graffiti in photoshop. I'll show you the finished one soon. I hate drawing cars, so the hardest part of this drawing was to embrace the car-ness and draw a stylized VW. I got a lot of inspiration from the Pixar movie, Cars, there is a hippy van played by George Carlin that helped. Soon this picture will be on pins and posters for the upcoming elections. The van was drawn on bristol board and inked with India ink. Then cleaned up in photoshop. Enjoy! More color work to come.

Open Art Blogs....
Welcome all! I Invited a whole bunch of artist to post on here that I enjoy talking with. I started this community to have like minded people (IE. artists) to talk about their artistic problems and techniques. also to have fun and to show off, share stories, and grow with each other. Collaborations and team ups are also a possibility I have floating around in my noggin.
The last reason I had to make a blog is for the artistic challenges. I think challenging yourself and pushing to new heights will help us all. So when we get a couple more people sign up, I will start with the first inaugural "IT'S ON! ART CHALLENGE."
Until then just post away on your art. Don't forget to introduce yourself to the group on your first post. I'm pushing for a Bi-weekly posting schedule myself. We will see how the scheduling works out.
Thanks again,
Bob
